Seb took the phone away from his ear, puzzled. She would be there in two seconds? She was in Hartwell, that was impossible! Hartwell was 40 minutes away, not two seconds. Not even fifteen minutes! He looked at the nurse, who took the phone from him and pushed “end call.” “Well, you rest, and just call if you need us,” she got up to leave. Sebastian opened his mouth to speak, and she stopped. “Did you call Dad?” he asked. She nodded. “Yes, we found his number in your phone. He knows and said he will be here as soon as he can.” She smiled and left the room, leaving Seb to puzzle in the sterile room.
Minutes passed, and Trina hadn’t arrived. It had occurred to him during his thinking that Trina couldn’t drive. She hadn’t even had learner’s back three months ago, so there was no way she could have permanents until she was 17. Did she drag along her whore mother, he wondered. He listened to his heart rate on the machine, steady and soothing. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.
He watched the opposite wall.
He moved his foot under the blanket.
He wondered where his clothes were and if they would give them back.
Then the door burst open and he saw a girl run in through the door and fling herself at his bed, rapping out a quick string of words that hurt his head. As she hugged him, or whatever that was, he could smell a fruity scent, damp hair and pure female. He took a deep breath, thanking god just for that scent. But then he snapped back to reality. Trina was there, right there! How on earth...? And she was crying. Dismay, guilt, confusion all made him sit up and put his hand on her damp, lovely blonde hair. “Trina, its okay,” he said, frowning. “I’m not dying or anything. I’m fine! How did you get here? Why did you come?” He looked at her, took her in. After three months of not seeing her, to see her was nearly delicious. He loved her hair, her eyes, her cheeks, her skin, her shirt and everything else.
